Step-by-step guide and timeline: renting a home at KJ Den Haag
Have you set your sights on a rental home at KJ Den Haag? If so, you will want to be properly prepared. This guide explains how the rental process works, the steps involved and what to look out for. From registration to allocation, here is everything you need to know.

Step 1: Check the rental criteria
Before registering, please check that you meet the eligibility criteria. We can only allocate a home if these requirements are met. The criteria differ by rental category:
- Social rent properties up to €932.93 per month require a maximum gross annual household income of €49,669 for single-person households or €54,847 for multi-person households.
- Mid-range rental properties up to €1,228.07 per month require a maximum gross annual household income of €67,366 for single-person households or €89,821 for multi-person households.
- Private sector rental properties require a gross monthly household income of between 3.5 and 4.5 times the monthly rent.
Note that income is assessed at household level.
Step 2: Explore the available homes
Is it clear which category you qualify for? One week before the start of the letting period, the available homes at KJ Den Haag will be published via the Property Finder. You will then be able to:
- View all available apartments on each floor.
- See key details such as floor plans, size, number of rooms, orientation and monthly rent.
- Filter according to your preferences.
- Select up to five favourite properties.
You will receive an update as soon as the listings go live.
Step 3: Start your registration
Have you selected your preferred properties in the Property Finder? During the week the letting period opens, you can begin your registration. The process works as follows:
- Click on ‘Register for these properties’ below your favourites list.
- Follow the link to the registration form.
- Create an account in your housing file.
- Enter your personal details and preferences.
- Upload all required documents.
Please note: your registration must be complete before the stated deadline. Incomplete or late applications cannot take part in the allocation process. If you register after the closing date, you will automatically be placed on the reserve list.
Step 4: Submit your details via Datakeeper Light
To complete your registration for a social or mid-range rental property, verification through Datakeeper Light is mandatory. This secure digital tool enables us to verify your details, such as your registration in the Dutch Personal Records Database and your income data via UWV.
- After registering, you will receive an email from the letting agent requesting that you submit your details via Datakeeper. You will have several days to complete this step.
- Log in using your DigiD username, password and SMS verification. The DigiD app cannot be used for this purpose.
- Please check in advance that SMS verification is activated via www.digid.nl/inlogmethodes/sms-controle.
Please note: this step is also subject to a deadline. The deadline will be communicated in advance.
Step 5: Priority status
Certain homes at KJ Den Haag are subject to a priority scheme. We will ask about this in the registration form and, where applicable, verify your details through Datakeeper Light to determine whether you fall within one of the priority groups. If you meet the relevant criteria, you may be given priority in the allocation process.
For social rent properties, priority may apply to key workers in essential professions such as healthcare, education, police and fire services.
Step 6: Allocation
Once registration has closed, the homes will be allocated. This process is carried out entirely objectively using a digital allocation assistant. We assess every application equally. Personal characteristics such as ethnicity, gender or religion do not influence the outcome.
The following conditions apply:- Your registration must be complete, including all required uploads and Datakeeper Light verification where applicable.
- Homes are allocated to the most suitable candidate based on stated preferences, availability and income criteria.
- If multiple candidates qualify equally, allocation will take place by means of a ballot.
Step 7: Outcome and next steps
You will receive a decision no later than one week after the registration closing date.
Have you been allocated a home? Congratulations. You will receive an email outlining the next steps. This will include a request to complete verification via Datakeeper Light where applicable. This applies to social, mid-range and private sector rental properties.
Have you not been allocated a home? You will automatically be placed on the reserve list. You will be contacted if a property becomes available that matches your preferences.
Finally: tips for a successful application
- Ensure your registration is complete before the deadline.
